Writing

I’m happiest when I’m writing, and hopefully that shows in what I create. In everything I do I try to entertain first and educate second, making sure that people enjoy the writing and almost learn by accident. Beer writing—in fact, food writing in generally—is often overdone and condescending so I try to keep my prose simple, and get to the heart of things as quickly as possible. This approach has led to me winning five British Guild of Beer Writer awards including the overall Michael Jackson Beer Writer of the Year Award in 2019.

I do most of my writing for the amazing Good Beer Hunting, but I also write for several national magazines and newspapers. I also have four books—Beer School (Mango) and The London Craft Beer Guide (Ebury), A Year in Beer (CAMRA) and The Meaning of Beer (Atlantic)

Below is a small library of what I think is my best work. If you like it I’m always available for commission of both journalistic and corporate work so drop me an email.
